Routine on a Low Energy Day

I woke up to an alarm at 6:30 AM just to went back to sleep before actually getting up at 8 AM. I even tried moving my phone further away last night. I’ve been like this over the past months and I don’t like it. Besides waking up feeling groggy, it also makes me feel like I’m breaking promise to myself to wake up early, too. Today is inherently a “low energy day”.

But last night, I remembered watching this video. She talked about routines for normal vs ADHD people. For those with ADHD, they’d feel motivated to follow a routine, but would only do for 1-2 days and dropped it. Then, they might blame themselves for being ‘broken’, undisciplined, and would eventually hate routines. She designed a new routine system by reframing her mindset. Different energy levels (which is common among people with ADHD) is not a bad thing, we just have to find a way that works with it.

She called it “The Honeyman Method” by designing the ideal routine aka. the routine where you have the most energy, then cut or adjust activities for an average or a low energy day. Basically, the routine scales down based on energy levels.

But I stumbled upon a proper routine for the low energy days first (and happened to be today lol) because of what I did purely from intuition.

My routine

  • Sit still for about 10 minutes or whatever to my heart’s content after getting up.
  • Listen to chill music. I got an Alte Afrobeat Mix during my way to work today.
  • During my lunch break, I’ll grab something quick and easy to eat and head outside the office to get some sun.
  • Walk more
  • Avoid phone, video games, programming, or any high-energy and heavy thinking activities before bed.
  • Read for an hour or so before bed.
  • Meditate for 10 minutes.
  • Deliberately do everything slower.

I kinda want to go to bed early on low energy days, so the routine was designed around getting better sleep. I still don’t have a clue for other routines. I might just have to live my life a little bit more lol.
